Maybe there could be a more "fair" and not so random way of setting the teams but it will probably be more complicated to track, e.g. after each game the players of the winning team get 3 or 2 points, the ones that lost - 0 points and if the match was a draw (if that ever happens) everyone gets a point. Thus all the members would have won certain points which would allow ranking them when setting the teams. So, based on their individual points the 12 guys who have signed for a certain game could be distributed as follows:
Red team:
1st (the one with the most points)
4th
5th
8th
9th
12th
White team:
2nd
3rd
6th
7th
10th
11th
As for this particular case when there are so many friends brought, I think one who invited some friends could be placed in the same team with them, so that the new guys knew at least someone from their team;)
These are just suggestions

Making the teams is usually the only work for our coach Andrea, but most of the time, he is busy playing golf or eating Pizzas at Leo"s restaurant !
